Tim Jones

OWNER/PRogram Director 

Hello, welcome to Club House PGH website. My name is Tim and I am the Owner and Program Director of our facility. I have worked with athletes from t-ball through the professional level for over 20 years. A Pittsburgh Native who played high school ball for the OLSH Chargers and went on to play JUCO ball & California University of Pa. I have helped forged the path to college baseball for over 60 players who continued their careers at the next level. I focus on holistic development with mental, physical and foundational aspects for my players. My passion for the game and mentoring players on & off the field allows me to continue to drive the game deeper within each player's goals and skill set. If you want to be the best coach you'll ever have, you need the program and foundation to pave the path.

I lead hitting, catching, team clinics, recruiting showcases, and coaches with our Rawlings Tigers National Teams.

Craig Sonson

In his second season with the Tigers and Club House, Craig Sonson brings a wealth of experience and a passion for coaching that has left an indelible mark on the world of sports. With an impressive 34-year coaching journey spanning all levels and genders, Craig is a true sports aficionado dedicated to the development of athletes. 

Craig's coaching journey has been nothing short of remarkable. He has been part of two W.P.I.A.L. championship teams as an assistant coach, as well as a state championship-winning team, showcasing the pinnacle of his illustrious career. Notably, in 2023, he played a pivotal role in guiding Bishop Canevin to a W.P.I.A.L. title, a testament to his coaching prowess. He also coached at Penn State and Chatham College.

Craig Sonson's expertise primarily focuses on catchers, imparting his knowledge on all aspects of the game. Additionally, he extends his coaching prowess to offer lessons in both hitting and catching, ensuring that athletes under his guidance receive comprehensive training to excel on the field.

Beyond his coaching duties, Craig will be leading various clinics and spearheading player recruitment efforts. His commitment to nurturing talent and promoting the growth of the sport is unwavering.

Craig holds a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education from Duquesne University, further demonstrating his dedication to the development and growth of young minds.

In the heart of Carnegie, Pennsylvania, Craig resides with his wife, Susan, and their three children, Kaitlin and Kylee, twin daughters, and Craig Jr. (C.J.), their son. His love for family parallels his passion for sports, and it's clear that the principles of teamwork and dedication learned in sports are mirrored in his life at home.

In sum, Craig Sonson's coaching career is a remarkable journey of dedication, achievement, and commitment to the betterment of athletes. His impact on the sports world, both on and off the field, is a testament to his unwavering love for the game and his desire to inspire and guide the next generation of athletes.

Marc Wilkins
 

Drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1992, Making his MLB Debut in 1996 and recording 218 k's over 6 incredible seasons with the Pirates-
Marc joins our Pitching Staff and has a world of knowledge when it comes to mental and physical preparation. Pitching sequencing to maximize efforts with repeatable mechanics to keep hitters guessing no matter the pitch, mentally preparing to dominate the mound and how to keep the game at your pace are the key areas Marc excels in. He works with our units to find incredible chemistry between the pitcher and the catcher to maximize efficiency.
Marc offers Lessons under his own Rate and offers some high level camps for small groups of pitchers.

Jake Stemmerich

Hailing from Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Coach Jake's journey in baseball is a testament to perseverance and passion. Although he didn't secure a spot on his high school team, Greater Latrobe Sr High School, until his senior year, Jake didn't let this deter him. He actively participated in summer travel and legion baseball to gain exposure and refine his skills.

Jake's dedication paid off during his time at Bethany College in West Virginia, where he shone as a four-year starter, excelling as a designated hitter and first baseman. Today, Coach Jake is renowned for his expertise in game strategy, player's mental approach, hitting techniques, and infield dynamics.

Offering personalized coaching sessions, Jake is eager to share his insights on mechanics for both hitting and fielding. He also focuses on enhancing players' mental strategies and provides an immersive baseball crash course for those looking to deepen their understanding of the game. Jake believes in inclusive learning, inviting parents to observe his sessions. This approach allows the skills and strategies he teaches to be further practiced and studied at home.

Tim Provenzano
 

Tim is a former professional pitcher, professional pitching coach in the Minor Leagues and also a state championship high school coach.

Tim Joins us as a pitching instructor after 4 years of high-level collegiate baseball, a decade of coaching high school baseball, and more recently, Tim Spent the past 5 years as the Washington Wild Things Pitching coach.

Tim's passion is developing players. Working in sequencing, mechanics, mental toughness, grip and pitching progressions and proper programming. Tim delivers incredible lessons, small group Elite level training and connects with our players on a deeper level to bring out the very best in each of them. Tim is working with some of our higher level players currently with incredible growth and success. He has taken players from mid 80s to mid 90s with his amazing Elite Pitching Camp and training. If you want to maximize your velo, dominate hitters, have ice in your veins and demand the ball at the next level, Tim is the guy to Go With.

Bill Emerick
 

Hello I am Bill Emerick, I coach the Rawlings Tigers 18u Quatro team.

 

My playing career started local at Kiski Area, and I continued on to play at Pitt-Bradford, where I was the teams closer for 4 years, while playing middle-infield and both corner positions.

 

After college, I played in the Indiana County League, and started my coaching career at Kiski Area. I then took my coaching career to Plum High School.

 

I love working with young pitchers that want to grow and develop their craft on the mound, as well as, working with infielders of all ages learning the art of fielding and throwing. Most importantly I love the game of baseball and developing young talent in a game where anything is possible.

Autumn Black

Softball Instructor 

Hello, my name is Autumn Black. My softball journey began at the tender age of 6, culminating in a thriving college softball career that concluded in May 2023. A proud native of Hermitage, Pennsylvania, I represented the Hickory High Hornets in high school and later showcased my skills at St. Bonaventure University, playing Division I softball while earning a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. Currently, I am pursuing a second degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, aiming to graduate in May 2025.

Throughout my college experience, I gained invaluable insights into balancing academic and athletic success. I'm now excited to share this knowledge with aspiring young softball players who dream big, just as I did. My coaching experience spans working with both young and high school-level players. My passion lies in connecting with players, fostering their growth and success both on and off the field. Understanding the mental and physical aspects of softball is key, and I dedicate myself to comprehending each player's unique needs and goals.

When I'm not on the softball field, you'll find me enjoying life with my boyfriend, friends, family, and my beloved dog, Rambo. I'm an advocate of staying active, whether it's through walking or weightlifting. Join me in this exciting softball journey, where we can grow, learn, and succeed together!

Holly Biechman

Softball Instructor 

Meet Holly Blechman, our esteemed Softball Instructor and a proud local product of North Allegheny. With a passion deeply rooted in the game, Holly brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the field. Specializing in catching, fielding, and hitting, she is particularly renowned for her skills in the art of slap hitting – a technique she has mastered over her impressive career.

Holly's journey in softball spans over 20 years, marked by significant achievements and relentless dedication. She shone as a four-year Varsity player at North Allegheny High School, where she first made her mark. Her talent and hard work propelled her into the collegiate sphere, where she continued to excel and refine her skills. Post-college, Holly didn't hang up her cleats; she extended her career into professional adult leagues, showcasing her prowess and love for the game.

Her extensive playing experience, combined with her deep understanding of the game's nuances, makes Holly an invaluable mentor and coach. She is committed to nurturing the next generation of softball players, imparting not only technical skills but also the spirit and strategy of the game. With Holly, aspiring players find not just a coach, but a guide who has lived the game and is eager to pass on her legacy of excellence in softball.

Jorge Palmas

Hello Tigers! I'm Coach Jorge Palmas, but you can simply call me Coach Jorge. I'm thrilled to share that I'm embarking on my third year as a coach and instructor for the Pittsburgh Rawlings Tigers. With roots deeply embedded in the Pittsburgh South Hills area, I bring a local touch to my coaching journey.

My own love for baseball blossomed right here in the South Hills, where I grew up. I had the privilege of playing for Upper St. Clair while simultaneously engaging in club ball with the Pittsburgh Outlaws and South Hills Devil Dogs. These early experiences laid the foundation for my passion for the sport.

After my high school and travel ball adventures, I embarked on a collegiate baseball journey, competing at the Division I NAIA level in Cincinnati. However, I later transferred to the PSUAC (Pennsylvania State University Athletics Conference) to represent Penn State Fayette, the Eberly Campus. During my tenure at Fayette, I established myself as a four-year starting pitcher and had the honor of being named team captain during my senior year. That season, I achieved a remarkable 4-1 record in conference play, boasting an impressive 2.3 ERA. These experiences on the mound and as a leader on the team have provided me with a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the game.

As a coach and instructor, I'm well-versed in the art of pitching, hitting, and infield play. With a lifetime of knowledge and a burning passion for baseball, I'm excited to share my expertise with all of you. My coaching journey is not just about teaching the game but also about fostering a love for the sport and helping you reach your full potential on and off the field.

I'm looking forward to working with you and sharing my experiences and love for baseball. Let's make this upcoming season an exciting and memorable one together!

Kern

With an impressive coaching career spanning over 45 years, Coach Kern is now in his third year with the Pittsburgh Rawlings Tigers and now with the Club House. His dedication to the sport and wealth of experience are a cornerstone of the team's success, making him an invaluable asset.

Coach Kern's coaching journey has taken him from being an Assistant and Head Coach for 16U teams to leading the charge as the Head Coach for the 17/18U team. He has left an indelible mark on the youth and professional baseball scene, having coached players from tee ball all the way to independent minor league baseball.

His extensive coaching resume includes a brief stint with the Americus Arrows in the Southeastern League, as well as coaching positions with Geneva College, Penn State Beaver, and Beaver Falls High School. Coach Kern's association with various levels of the game showcases his adaptability and expertise across the baseball spectrum.

Throughout his career, Coach Kern has achieved remarkable milestones. He's been to two NAIA World Series and participated in several NCCAA World Series, demonstrating his ability to lead teams to the highest levels of competition. He's also played a pivotal role in clinching a couple of conference championships and proudly won a Beaver County Colt League Championship in 1989.

Primarily recognized for his prowess in hitting instruction and infield play, Coach Kern's knowledge and experience extend to all facets of the game. His well-rounded understanding of baseball is a testament to his lifelong dedication to the sport.

Coach Kern's contributions to the Pittsburgh Rawlings Tigers extend far beyond the coaching role. He embodies the spirit of baseball and is a mentor, leader, and source of inspiration for all players under his guidance. With a career as rich and diverse as his, Coach Kern continues to be a driving force in shaping the future of baseball.

He handles recruiting, assists in big brother program, and mental training.

David Thornton

Meet David Thornton, a dedicated coach and instructor whose passion for baseball extends beyond the field. David's journey is deeply rooted in the community, and he brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Tigers 18u Quatro team with Coach Kern.

Residing in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, David is not just a baseball enthusiast but a loving husband and a proud father of two children, Cody (15) and Caitlyn (10). Their household is complete with three pitbulls and one cat, showcasing their love for animals and their welcoming home.

As a coach and instructor, David specializes in catching and hitting, offering valuable expertise in these critical aspects of the game. His knowledge, however, extends to all facets of baseball, providing a well-rounded coaching experience to players under his guidance.

Beyond individual instruction, David offers hitting and catching lessons to all players, creating opportunities for skill development and improvement. In the offseason, he plans to conduct camps that focus on both hitting and catching, fostering an environment of continuous growth and learning.

David's coaching journey is not just about the game; it's about building a legacy in the community. He has dedicated over 12 years to coaching baseball to inner-city youth, aiming to make the sport accessible to all, regardless of financial circumstances. His commitment has borne fruit with multiple championships won by players and teams he's nurtured. Moreover, he's paved the way for numerous kids to progress through high school and into college, reflecting his dedication to their future.

His ultimate goal is not only to prepare Tiger kids for success in baseball but also in life. David's coaching philosophy revolves around equipping his players with the skills and values they need to navigate the challenges ahead. As he takes on the exciting challenge of coaching the Tigers, he eagerly anticipates the journey ahead, nurturing young talent and shaping the future of both the game and the lives of the players.

David Thornton is more than a coach; he is a mentor, a community builder, and a symbol of dedication to the game and the well-being of the players he serves.

Alex Pane

Former collegiate baseball player turned dedicated coach and educator, I bring a unique blend of sports and academic expertise to my coaching approach.

 

My journey in baseball began at a JUCO before earning a scholarship to a Division 2 school, where I earned a Bachelor's degree in Information Systems Management and an MBA in Cybersecurity Management.

My coaching journey began after my playing days ended. In 2023, I coached at Springdale High School, and in 2024, I'll be joining the coaching staff of the North Catholic Trojans. Alongside my high school coaching experience, I've had the privilege of contributing to the Rawlings Tigers organization as an assistant coach.

With Rawlings Tigers and the Club House, I have the opportunity to offer comprehensive lessons in pitching, hitting, and fielding. My coaching philosophy emphasizes holistic player development, ensuring that every aspect of the game is addressed. I prioritize arm care to keep young athletes healthy and thriving. I'm committed to helping players of all ages and skill levels reach their full potential and fostering a love for baseball that lasts a lifetime.
